Happy Birthday, Emma!!

Miss Emma Kathryn entered the world on Tuesday, February 24 at 11:59am. Mom and baby are doing well and I think Kevin is a pretty proud papa right about now. Tracy worked hard for that sweet baby and we're all so excited she's here and can't wait to love on her!

Tracy and Kevin did not find out the sex beforehand, so we were all ELATED to find out it was a girl!! I almost couldn't sleep the night before out of pure excitment knowing we would all know some time on Tuesday. Way to go, mama and daddy!

This is how my morning went...

**Update: 2/26 - We found either the same or a new roach hanging out on our brown bathroom wall last night (maybe he was going for camouflage?). Jeremy promptly killed the bugger as I shuddered in the other room. Thank goodness ABC Pest Control sprayed the house down yesterday - hopefully that takes care of the roach issue.

Me: Jeremy, there's a roach in here.
Jeremy: {Gestures to shaving cream on face & clearly can't help.}

{10 minutes later...}

M: Jeremy, that roach is still in here.
{No response.}
M: I think you're afraid to kill bugs for me, but you have to, it's your job.
J: But I picked up the one in the kitchen.
M: But this one is alive.

{Still no response.}

And to my knowledge I will find either a dead or alive roach by my closet tonight.

Omigod, omigod, you guys!

While the Oscars were recording last night, Jeremy and I went to see Legally Blonde: The Musical as a belated Valentine's Day date.

IT.

WAS.

SO.

GOOD.

You know going into it it's not Phantom of the Opera or Cats, but it was entertaining and cute! I was also excited after watching the MTV series "Search for the Next Elle Woods" I got to see Rhiannon as Margot (a sorority sister friend of Elle's) and Laura Bell Bundy as Elle, who starred in the musical on Broadway and was filling in for the other Elle who suffered a foot injury. Since Legally Blonde has closed on Broadway, it was exciting to see her in it!!

I am about to download the soundtrack and can't stop singing "omigod, omigod, you guys..."!!

Meg's Oscar Review

I enjoyed the Academy Awards this year. I thought Hugh Jackman was funny and did a good job. I read an article on MSN saying they didn't think it was as edgy as Jon Stewart hosting or as showy as Billy Crystal. While I am sure Billy Crystal was a great host (I can't remember ever seeing him host), I don't think we always need to see edgy. Go be edgy at the Spirit awards, let us enjoy the Oscars in peace. Maybe I just want to see Hugh Jackman, Beyonce, Amanda Seyfried, the other guy from Mama Mia, Zach Efron and Vanessa Hudgens sing and dance. Maybe I could care less about Obama, the election (that already happened), etc. I want to watch people in pretty dresses, okay? So sue me.

I regret to say I did not see ANY of the nominated movies this year! Not a single one! Wait, scratch that, I did see Wall-E, The Dark Knight and Tropic Thunder. So there! But I will shortly be adding Milk, Slumdog Millionaire, Doubt, The Reader, The Wrestler, Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Revolutionary Road to our Netflix list! Needless to say, I can't really comment on any of the winners. I understand Heath Ledger winning Best Supporting Actor and he was amazing, but I do think Robert Downey, Jr. was fabulous in Tropic Thunder. See, I actually did see both of those so I can comment!

How funny was the Seth Rogen and James Franco thing? Pineapple Express is being added to our Netflix list, too!

Angelina Jolie in Elie Saab and amazing emerald jewels (my birthstone!)

Anne Hathaway in Armani on the Red Carpet and in her lovely dress during the opening with Hugh Jackman - love them both! She rarely does us wrong.

Taraji P. Henson (from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) in Roberto Cavalli

Sarah Jessica Parker in Dior haute couture - some may have said this is too poofy, sequined and frilly but I don't believe there is such a thing (correction: see Mily Cyrus below). The dress looked even prettier (and a little more blue-ish and colorful) on TV.

Freida Pinto in John Galliano. I am just happy she didn't wear white, ivory, cream or champagne! But really I do like it because she is gorgeous and it's something different.

Reese Witherspoon in Rodarte

Marion Cotillard, former Best Actress winner, in Dior couture - clearly I am enjoying the black & blue combo!

My not-so-favorites:

Sophia Loren in Armani Prive...oh, no, girl. I know you can find something that doesn't accentuate your crispy skin with the color and 80's ruffles!

Penelope Cruz in a 60-year-old vintage Balmain gown...which looks to have been a wedding dress at some point? I know it was a favorite, but I did not like it at all. Too wedding-y, I didn't like the top and her bangs make her look like a boy. Harsh, I know, but she's done so much better in the past!!

Oh, Miss Miley (in Zuhair Murad). I know you're young and can get away with more, but I am not letting you off the hook on this one. You had to have had 20 people advising you on your dress choice and they all failed you. It's too much - the fish scales, the diferent colored sequins, the belt. I would have gone for something more like what Natalie Portman wore - a bright, fun color and some sparkle.

Melissa George (most recently seen as 'Sadie' on Grey's Anatomy) in Dolce & Gabbana - this is everything I didn't like about the fashion last night - white (i.e. colorless), mermaid silouhette, plus her top looks like an undergarmet. Bleh.

Jessica Biel, the technical awards host from a couple weeks ago, in Prada. I. Do. Not. Like. This. Not flattering in style or color. I seriously don't think she washed her hair. And I know sometimes it's easier to do day-old hair, but usually it's teased and hairsprayed and it doesn't look dirty. Her hair looks dirty. Don't be dirty for the Oscars, okay?

So I have seen 121 of 239 movies on this list...technically I beat out Sarah, but I don't think that's right seeing as she owns an absurd number of DVD's! I only think my love of horror movies helped me out with the total, but still a far cry from 239!! :)

Rachael Ray

*Editor's note: If you notice in my first paragraph I wrote "t/" instead of "to" which is how I abbreviate when typing weekly reports at work. I think that is hilarious (only to me) and I am not changing it.

Last week, Emily blogged about Rachael Ray. (Yes, I have now blog-stalked/referenced Emily's blog twice in one week. I swear we are friends in real life!) First, I have to say that I echo her sentiments exactly! I used to LOVE Rachael Ray, like my parents would call me when a show was on so I could flip to it. It first started when I was in bed, comatose after a Thanksgiving meal and the Food Network was running a marathon of $40 a Day, her travel show where she attempted t/ spend no more than $40 per day wherever she was. It was so good! Food and travel, how can you go wrong? She was kind of dorky, but not nearly as much as Samantha Brown (from Great Hotels on the Travel Channel, who I love dearly anyway). I never really got into 30 Minute Meals in college because I never cooked, but I liked all of her other shows. Then I heard Oprah was getting her her very own talk show. I was intrigued, but the excitement was starting to wear off. Her phrases like "yum-oh" and "dee-lish" were bugging me...like those are not crazy made-up words. People have been saying "dee-lish" forever, what's the big deal?

Getting to my point...I saw a commercial for this yesterday and almost died laughing, because it is so appropriately Rachael Ray and so the reason she grates on some people's nerves! Yes, she now has a dog food (inspired by her dog, Isaboo) (side note: just name your dog Isabelle and call her Isaboo. I didn't name my dog DixiePoo but that's what I call her. DUH.) Guess what the name of the dog food is?

NUTRISH.

Really? REALLY? REALLY?!!! You're now too popular and I can only imagine a handful of people like you now. I'm not trying to be mean, it's nothing against you personally, but I might cut it down to maybe...3 shows tops? Maybe only 4 product lines? I hope the people who moved into our old apartment are enjoying your magazine because I didn't even bother changing my address on it when we moved.

Everyone knows it's all about Paula Deen and Giada anyway.

He does not like cake! Too crumbly! So probably a brownie or pie. I still make him eat cake for his birthday though - RJ Goodie's, of course!

Football and baseball? Up until he was 16 & had his first transplant.

Reading news and pointless, dumb stories online and researching stuff online to death!

Wannabe Decorator

I feel like I am still in pursuit of my "design style." I think I can pick nice pieces individually, but I have trouble bringing it all together in a room. I also have found as a relatively new homeowner that I only like brown/neutral things - walls, floors, furniture, decorations, etc. That is a problem because I really do love color! I just have to figure out how to incorporate color into what I already have. All that to say, Emily blogged about a design quiz at Sproost that I thought could help me...

41% Wine Country

Wine Country style, maybe. My couch kind of is and I do like a warm feel and iron accents (thus my color dilemma!). I love the picture of Traditional Country style and I desperately want to be that girl that finds amazing pieces at flea markets, garage sales and antique stores. Nantucket style...I clearly don't have it in my house, but I do like the picture. Maybe if I ever had a sunroom...

Why my husband is perfect for me

It's the day before Valentine's Day. Hubbs was at work until way too late last night, came home and stayed up all night working, only to leave for the office at 6am. In his busy state, this lovely package of roses, chocolate and a teddy bear were waiting for me when I got to work at 7:15 this morning. What a sweetie!

And this is why he's perfect for me. The card on the flowers reads:

When it rains...

Bad way to start a Wednesday morning. Sorry, Mr. Audi!

To make it better Sarah did go see He's Just Not That Into You with me last night. I LOVED IT! And I have been a very picky movie goer recently - I hated Four Christmases with a passion, and was very let down by Bride Wars. And independently, most of the actors/characters in HJNTIY bugged me, like Ben Affleck, Jennifer Connoly, Jennifer Anniston, and Drew Barrymore, but somehow together it all worked for me. I love loved Ginnifer Goodwin, Bradley Cooper and Justin Long though!

What's everyone doing this weekend for the big V-Day? Jeremy is finishing up a project and could be working, so I got us Legally Blonde musical tickets for the following Sunday just in case! Tomorrow I am helping out at Tyler's 5th grade class's Valentine's party and celebrating my mom's birthday (actually on the 15th). Amanda is coming in town too to celebrate! Yay!

The Grammy's: Meg's Train of Thought

My opinions on the Grammy's (because Jeremy is working with his noise-canceling headphones on and won't listen to me!):

-The guy from The Mentalist is hot.

-Coldplay's performance with Jay-Z was kind of cool, but I was fairly underwhelmed. Funny they performed Viva La Vida which currently has a lawsuit brought against it.

-Oh, how I love Carrie Underwood and want legs like hers, but I did not like her dress at all. I know she can do better!

-How adorable is Jennifer Nettles from Sugarland? Kristian Bush (the guy from Sugarland) is, too, actually. Their acceptance speech was cute and she looked gorge in her dress.

-Oh, oh, song of the year award!! I bet Coldplay wins.

-Yep. For Viva La Vida. Again the lawsuit thing is kind of funny since it is now a Grammy-winning song. Also funny because the dude in the purple jacket just apologized to Paul McCartney for wearing Sergeant Pepper jackets - guess they "recycle "a lot?

-Kid Rock is up for 2 awards tonight?? Seriously?? Why am I watching live and unable to fast forward?

-Okay, I can't hate when he sings Sweet Home Alabama. That song never gets old!

-Yay yay yay Taylor Swift...and Miley. Not my fave song off her album, but I'll forgive her. Ew, no Miley, go away, don't sing Taylor's song!! Eh.

-Not a fan of Alison Krauss's hair extensions.

-I would probably fast forward through Jennifer Hudson's performance, also. You look awesome, but I am not feelin' it, girl.

-I LOVE Emily Proctor from CSI Miami (she sounds like such a southern belle!) AND Jason Mraz. AND they're introducing Jonas Brothers!! Omg, best intro ever!! SWOON. And I love Stevie Wonder singing a Joe Bros. song!

-I like how they introduced only Kayne and really it's an Estelle song featuring him.

-Ha, Kayne dig at not winning the Best New Artist Grammy ever.

-Yay Adele won! LOVE her, her dress and her teased ponytail. Work it!

-Really, Kenny Chesney and Morgan Freeman are friends??

-Herbie Hancock only makes me think of Tommy Boy.

-M.I.A.'s pregnant belly definitely adds something to the "hip hop summit."

-Paul McCartney and Dave Grohl? I like it! Sir Paul is looking mighty young...might he have had some face work done?

-For the love of all that is sparkly and sequined, I love/want/need Gwyneth Paltrow's dress.

-I think it is totally cute Solange is sitting next to Jay-Z (she's his sister-in-law). Jeremy is to Jay-Z as Amanda is to Solange. Does that make me Beyonce?? :)

-Is it just me or does Alison Krauss just look completely awkward up there? You were the big winner, be excited!!

The Skinny

I know, I know, it's talked about all the time, probably too much. But I felt the need to weigh in (no pun intended, swear!) because just this season Jeremy and I both remarked on how thin some of our favorite actresses were looking. I am well aware, regardless of your size, most people prefer to see thin or well-proportioned people on TV and in magazines. BUT there is a fine line, I think, and I'm afraid some of my favorite girls may have crossed it. You be the judge.

Taylor Momsen, aka Little J, from Gossip Girl. She's only 15! So obviously she might be in that "awkward" stage some teenagers hit, but that was before she go this thin below:



It's hard to tell in these pictures (and these are the best I could find online), but Sarah Chalke (Dr. Elliott Reed/Stella) is looking exceptionally skinny this season of Scrubs. She was getting there during her guest spot on How I Met Your Mother last fall, but Jeremy and I both gasped out loud when they showed her legs on Scrubs. She's always been tall and on the thin side, but now she's suffering from the skinny "big head" where your little body makes your head look huge. Her legs literally don't look like they could support her dwindling body weight, especially in heels.

The photo above shows Sarah Chalke and Cobie Smulders (Robin Scherbatsky) in How I Met Your Mother. Cobie is another one looking exceptionally thin right now, though she is pregnant, so thankfully that will change. There's one episode in particular that hit Jeremy and I as her losing too much weight, Season 4, Episode 4 "The Intervention." I can't find any pictures or videos from it, but if you watch HIMYM, you know the one. They "intervene" with Robin because she fake tans too much and she looks VERY skinny! And tan. But we know that's fake!

Another fave, HIMYM's Alyson Hannigan (Lily Aldren-Erickson) has been looking thin for a while. She seems very petite anyway, but she was tiny!! Again, she is pregnant also and majorly showing, and I honestly think she looks better! The picture below is the best I could find of "too skinny" Alyson.

And lastly, the show that shows the most unreasonably skinny girls is the new 90210. Below there's Jessica Stroup (Silver), then AnnaLynne McCord (Naomi), and Shenae Grimes (Annie). Holy cow!! I'm just saying - who wants to see back ribs poking out?

I know I'm not in their shoes, they're naturally thin, whatever, whatever. I've never said anything about it before. I have just been noticing extra thinness lately and felt the need to blog it out. (And I'm not hating because I'm on Weight Watchers and need to lose some lbs either!) I think there are healthy weight ranges for a reason - and there is nothing wrong with wanting to be thin or fit or healthy or whatever you want, everything just needs to be in moderation, whether it's french fries or dieting.
